All change

For the last year or so I have fancied dreads. And after putting it off during the summer (read "chickening out") I finally took the plunge. 2 friends and my Mum did the dreads for me, and they do look quite cool. But, and here's the big but, I'm not sure it is me. I have had the same hairstyle for the last 20 years, and have had a major wibble about what I have done. Last night I was going to get up at about 3am and try combing them out, but tiredness got the better of me. In my less wibbly moments I like them, but then I wonder, what have I done to my lovely curly hair? Even though it used to drive me up the wall with its frizziness, and knots! Oh the knots!

I wonder whether I should have just accepted myself for me, and not try to give the impression I am someone else. Anyway, here's how I look at the moment. Whether it will stay or not only time will tell.

  1. I think they look beautiful. Maybe you could leave them for a few days then see how you feel. If you don't like them still, then you could brush them out again. Changing your style after 20 years is going to make you feel odd. xxxx

  2. Aw sweetie, I think you look great! It must feel a bit drastic, but you've wanted to give them a try for so long.

Take courage, mama! You are beautiful, and can adopt a new look if and when you feel like it - and who says this isn't "you"?

  3. I think they look great!

How about making yourself some funky headbands to wear while you get used to them? Look up calorimetry pattern. :)

I'm doing mine soon and plan on wearing lots of bands - like in Polly's profile pic on fb.

  5. I think they look really good, yes it's different, but so is any haircut, I'd leave them at least a week to see how you really feel, hugs

  6. But you aren't someone else - you are YOU - with dreads for a change. I think it is a great look. (Says a woman who has long hair with a fringe since I about 10!)

  7. sit with this you for awhile, get to know her, listen to her .... let this new you sing
instead of always wondering, you went for it .. much braver than me, who opted to have mine all chopped off instead but I do still think about dreads .. and I think you would have too
so now you know and thats good, you did it, celebrate it, enjoy it and then who knows what you'll do, but thats fine also
    change is good

much love and am really not jealous, no really I'm not

  8. Me too - I think your hair is great. I do empathise with it being so different - I have had the same kind of hair style for years too - but maybe it suits 'you' better than your old do?? xx

Pull up a chair, have a cuppa and some cake, and if you feel like it, leave a comment.
